The FABER GROUP - Environmental strategy
Environmental Awareness in connection with quality products is part of the Faber Group´s production strategy.
The Faber Group was founded in 1933. As one of the world’s leading screen printing manufacturers we have a responsibility to ensure that our products are of the highest quality and at the same time
have as little effect as possible on the environment.
Environment and Production
All production within the Faber Group has to meet with our specified environmental requirements.
In 2004 we introduced our own ecological Make Sure waste management system. This is a waste management system based on the principles and guidelines as stated in ISO 14002 directives.
There are four main areas addressed through the Make Sure system:
• Energy
• Water
• Chemicals/Emissions
• Waste
How to reduce energy consumption
Energy – We operate a continuous process to reduce energy consumption at our production facility.
This is achieved by more effective production planning, better quality dyes, and more effective packaging methods. Another step in this direction is the use of sensor activated low energy lighting in different parts of the factory. The use of textiles as signage material offers a significant reduction in weight of outgoing orders when compared to other sign materials on the market today. FABER nonwoven banners weigh approximately 25 per cent less than the PVC alternatives available on the market today.
This alone is a key factor in the reduction of emissions associated with transport and distribution.
Minimal waste of water
Water – After our printing process the products are washed. Waste water goes through a communal, biological treatment plant for cleaning. Due to the use of water-based dyes rather than solvent-based inks, there is minimal waste production of rinsing water during the separation process.
Water-based dyes
Chemicals/Emissions – The pigment and disperse dyes used in our screen printing processes are water based and do not contain any contaminants. All other manufacturing materials used in the making of our screens and printing processes, (photopolymer & print-paste) are also water based. In other words this is one of the most environmentally friendly manufacturing methods within the printing industry today. Those other products used in the process, such as glue used to bind the fabric to the press, are separated and sent to a company specialized in the disposal of such by-products.
Recycling
Waste – Our production methods allow us to sort and separate our waste products. All materials are separated for recycling following the printing process. The dye barrels are sent back to our supplier for reuse. This includes the paper, cardboard, polythene and wood from transport and packaging. Wastewater is filtered and sent to a communal, biological wastewater treatment plant. This process is monitored by a safety system which detects any contamination in the water. If this occurs, the water waste system is immediately shut down.
Other key factors
Transportation – Correct transportation methods are a key factor when it comes to the environment. With the Faber Group´s main production located in central Europe we are close to our European and Scandinavian customers. With the proper planning and logistics we ensure maximized use of our transports. The Faber Group also practices a policy to work with transport companies/partners who are environmentally conscientious.
European made
Faber’s Choice of Raw Materials – We print on 100% pure polyester fabric, European made.
This fabric contains no heavy metals, and no toxic-, carcinogen or mutagen compounds.
Ecological and environmental laws
General Information – With regards to the ecological and environmental laws in Holland we carry all the mandatory permits required by both our local and national governments.
